The Debrecen Jazz Days of a history of thirty seven years has deservedly risen among the important international festivals. Besides the series of high-standard concerts presenting international stars at one of the biggest jazz festivals of Central-Eastern Europe, Hungarian musicians and singers also appear.

The 3-year-old bulls introduction and sale takes place at Hortobágy and Apajpuszta every autumn. In principle, every breeder can assign bulls for breeding but then they are raised and introduced either by the Hortobagyi Kht (in Hortobágy).
It is the largest national flea-market in Hungary with up to 1200 tradesmen and artisans offering their products and goods to the visitors.
At the overall festival, illustrious artists and artistic groups introduce themselves to the public of Debrecen. The genres are extremely multi-coloured: those interested may visit classical music, jazz and pop music concerts just as well as fine art exhibitions, film and theatrical performances or dance shows.

A programme of long traditions, the Debrecen Literary Days is one of the most significant professional events of the Hungarian literary public life. It is the national forum of the representatives of diverse literary approaches, trends, and all meritorious ambitions of contemporary literature. Artists and their works of art are in the heart of the programme that has recently gained a specialized academic nature.

The animals are out on the pasture until late autumn. When they are driven in, the herdsmen have to give an account of them. The advent is welcomed at the church, a herdsman’s campfire is lit by an advent wreath on the Hortobágy market place on the Saturday before Advent.

On the last day of the year large-scale concerts, a great street party and fireworks provide carefree and cheerful entertainment to the large number of visitors and local citizens in Kossuth Square. New Year's Day is greeted by gala concert in the Great Reformed Church.

Debrecen in flowers – it is the greatest and most well-known event of the city and Hungary. None of the carnivals in Europe exhibit such grandiose flower compositions. The event that now has a history of forty years is connected to the 20th August, Saint Stephan’s Day and the festivity of the new bread. For five days light, entertaining genres are presented in the Kossuth Square.
