The Modem Modern and Contemporary Art Centre is the biggest art gallery of the region situated in the historical downtown of Debrecen, on the newly constructed Baltazár Dezső Square, halfway between the Déri Museum and the Kölcsey Centre. The altogether 4650 square metre, three storey building has an exhibition area of some 3000 square metres. On the second floor we find the largest – more than 1300 square metre – contiguous exhibition area in the country. The Modem gives home to numerous modern and contemporary fine art masterpieces. Besides the periodical exhibitions, co-art programmes and museum pedagogy activities are regularly held here as well. A vital part of the art centre is the Modem Shop gift and bookshop as well as the Art Café – this latter regularly accommodates culturehistorical and philosophical presentations, literary evenings and small concerts too. After Florence and Tokyo in 2007 the exhibition entitled “The Real da Vinci” was presented here, gaining a true reputation for the Modem, not only nationwide but also considering international standards. The display attracted approximately 160000 visitors to Debrecen. Groups of students can participate in museum pedagogy activities subject to prior notice.

Opening hours: From Tuesday to Sunday between 10.00-18.00, but on Thursdays: between 12.00-20.00, and during summertime between 14.00-22.00
