Debreceni Református Nagytemplom The symbol of Debrecen is the Reformed Great Church. It is probable that the first single nave church was built by the landlords of the town between 1290 and 1311. The church organ was built by Jakob Deutschmann, master from Vienna, and following several reconstructions it is now the second largest mechanical organ in the country. Its history is what made the building really well-known. On 14th April 1849 Lajos Kossuth read out the Declaration of Independence. The chair Kossuth used then is still a precious relic of the Great Church.
There is an unparalleled view of the city from the tower. On the way up you can also see the Rákóczi Bell.
