It was open in 1932 on the 100 acre area of the Great Forest. The funeral parlour and the crematorium were constructed in Hungarian secession style based on the plans of József Borsos in 1932. The ashes of the designer also rest here. The frescos and glass windows of the funeral parlour are remarkable. Among the celebrities buried in the Cemetery probably the most well-known are Mihály Fazekas (writer of Lúdas Matyi) and Magda Szabó (her ashes also rest here, she is the Hungarian writer whose works have been translated to the most languages, her most famous works are Abigél, The Door, An Old-Fashioned Story, City – Call Out! and Cats’ Wednesday which are mostly about Debrecen).
